WHEN I WAS A BUSBOY
I thought about sex a lot,
my hands greasy,
pits wet. I worked with cute
busboys, used to play
Pong with one. It never went
any farther, honest. Some
customers thought about sex
a lot too, lovers who’d get seated
five minutes before midnight—
we’d kill time waiting for them
to finish dessert, but no,
they’d coo and kiss. Waitresses
talked about sex a lot. One
changed boyfriends faster
than I could bring water
to a banquette. She was more
interesting than college reading
assignments. So, I thought
and thought and thought
and thought about it. Got
my tips. Drove home alone.
